In 1965, Iraq adopted Egypt's anthem (without the words), intending to create a greater Arab nation including Iraq, Egypt, Syria, and other Arab nations of the region. Iraq kept Egypt's anthem even after Egypt replaced it in 1979, and finally adopted a new, original anthem, in 1981.
