During the existence of the Czechoslovak state, the state anthem was merely a combination of the anthems already in unofficial use in the two main components of the nation, the first verse of the Czech anthem was played first followed immediately by the first verse of the Slovak anthem. (A similar technique was also used in Yugoslavia at the time, who anthem consisted of parts of those of its constituent states in succession.)
