An island of the Netherlands Antilles, itself a colony of the Netherlands, Bonaire, like every island in the Netherlands Antilles, have its own local anthem, including Bonaire. From 1964-2000, Bonaire's anthem served as the anthem for the entire Netherlands Antilles (without the lyrics) until a new anthem was written.

In the 2000s, referendums and talks were held with the purpose of dismantling the Netherlands Antilles. Bonaire voted to become a municipality of the Netherlands when the Netherlands Antilles is scheduled to cease to exist on October 10, 2010. It is presumed that the anthem will be used as the municipal anthem of Bonaire at that time.
