Zaire
"La Zaïroise"
Words by: Joseph Lutumba
Music by: Simon-Pierre Boka Di Mpasi Londi
In use: 1972-1997
From 1972 to 1997, the country now known as Congo (Democratic Republic of) was called Zaire, in an effort by the government that seized power to change the national symbols. A new anthem was also adopted for the nation; the author and composer of the anthem also wrote the previous anthem. The anthem mentions a "three coloured flag", however the flag of Zaire actually had four colours (a black/brown arm holding a same-coloured torch with red flames upon a yellow disk on a green field).
