Zanzibar
"National March for the Sultan of Zanzibar"

Music by: Donald Francis Tovey
In use: 1911-1964

Adopted in 1911, while the Sultanate was still a British protectorate, Zanzibar used a wordless anthem until the island merged with Tanganyika in 1964 to form Tanzania. The melody was a popular melody on the island before it was made the national anthem.

In 2004, Zanzibar recieved more autonomy within Tanzania, and the local government adopted new national symbols, including a new anthem, as a result. Not much is known about this anthem, except that it has words. I would appreciate any information about the new anthem (especially a sound file), please email me if you have any information.
