The Tatars are a people of the eastern part of European Russia, near the Ural Mountains, and claim autonomy for their homeland, Tatarstan.

(The lyrics below are in Cyrillic and Latin script since in 2001 the Tatar alphabet switched from a Cyrillic-based one to a Latin-based one..)
