The Latvian SSR anthem is unique in that it is in a far different style than other Soviet Socialist Republics’ anthems. While most of them are definitely of the “European march” type of anthem (as are most socialist countries), Latvia’s anthem is more calm and sobering in melody, yet the words are very much like the other Soviet republics anthems, in praise of socialism, Lenin, and Russia.
