Jersey (a British Crown Dependency) was originally colonized by Normans from Normandy and was a part of Normandy (now in France) for a time in its history as well. Because of this, French is an official language of the island and is still spoken there. The anthem is also used unofficially as the anthem of the French region of Normandy.

Perhaps because the anthem, written in 1836, mentions Normandy and France, but not Jersey, a new anthem was comissioned in 2007, the winner, declared the following spring, was “Island Home” by resident Gerard Le Feuvre.

Special thanks to: Ken Westmoreland for providing the French lyrics.
